A fun afternoon of tennis, fellowship and food has been planned for Sunday, October 14, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Coronado Tennis Center for Sacred Heart Parishioners and, hopefully, some of our fellow church tennis players in the Village. We are looking for players of all skill levels, both men and women, who will be paired up for doubles for three sets over a three-hour period of time. Following tennis, we will eat pizza and Father Bill's ice cream and enjoy one another's company. Cost is court fees and $3.00 to help pay for the pizza. Bring your own drinks or enjoy the lemonade provided. If interested, please either sign the sheet in the narthex or call Rick Meyers at 922-9031 or Father Bill at 209-2502.
In the United States last year, 175 million Americans celebrated Halloween. The average spending for this holiday was $86.79 per buyer. This includes decorations, yard art, costumes (adult, children, pets) and candy treats.
This year in Hot Springs Village, let us celebrate this Halloween by putting our "trick or treat" money in the special collection the weekend of October 27/28 to benefit the Food Basket Program here at Sacred Heart. This once-a-year collection helps provide food baskets for families living in poverty with children. School guidance counselors at Mountain Pine, Jessieville and Fountain Lake provide the names of families that could use a little help from time-to-time. Help us to help them by contributing generously with the special envelopes in your packet.

In response to several requests from parishioners, Sacred Heart is now offering Electronic Giving. This means that you can make your donations on the internet or with your mobile phone, and those donations can be charged to a credit card or directly to your bank account. Our hope is that the process will make contributing easier. There is a link to our Giving Page on the Sacred Heart website, and we recommend that you save that Giving Page in your Favorites to make future access easier. There is an insert in the bulletin this weekend with more information, and there will be flyers on the church bulletin board as well. If you have any questions please contact Larry Stein at 501-204-9074.
The Ladies of the Sacred Heart will meet Monday, October 8, in the Lower Hall after morning Mass. The featured speaker this month is Bob Woodall who has been coordinating our Blood Drives for several years. He will help dispel the myths concerning blood donation. So, please take this opportunity to have your questions answered! The next Blood Drive for the parish is scheduled for November 13 and will be held at the Village United Methodist Church.
Those attending this meeting are asked to bring "something extra" if possible. We will be collecting personal hygiene items for local school nurses. Feel free to donate all those extra shampoos, soaps, bath wash, mouthwash, toothbrushes, etc. that you may have collected during summer travels.

October 22 is the feast of St. John Paul II. There are two FORMED.org programs that recall the influence of this saint who had an overwhelming impact on the spiritual lives of so many of us. The first, a file, Pope John Paul II, "follows Karol Wojtyla's journey from his youth through his late days on the Chair of St. Peter." It stars Jon Voight as Pope John Paul II, a role for which Voight was nominated for an Emmy. The second, an audio presentation, Father Michael Gaitley's The Second Greatest Story Ever Told, "emcompasses Divine Mercy, the life of Pope John Paul II, and the crucial role that Marian Consecrations can play in your life."
To register with FORMED, just typed FORMED.org into your browser, enter the parish's code - CNT7WK - on the homepage, and create a password for your continued use of the website.

The Balboa Baptist Church, Faith Lutheran Church, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and Village Bible Church will co-sponsor and participate in the Crosses for Life Memorial in the Village this year during the month of September. This statewide outreach project was originally started by Benton County Right-to-Life and is now managed by Arkansas Right-to-Life.
The crosses represent some of the 3,700 preborn children that die daily in the United States of America due to abortion. The display at each of the churches is to memorialize those children who were aborted and increase public awareness of the devastating effects of abortion. As you drive by the churches and see the crosses, please say a prayer for the end of abortion in the United States. Saint Mother Teresa was a champion of life and was quoted saying the following: "And if we can accept that a mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another."
Crosses were erected at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be displayed for the month of September. An ecumenical service is planned for September 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church on DeSoto Boulevard.

We are looking for volunteers for the 2018-19 Food Basket Program for our parish. A second collection will be taken the weekend of October 27-28 to help fund the program from Thanksgiving, 2018, through Christmas, and into 2019 covering the Easter holidays; and, hopefully, a basket of food for families with children home through the summer from school.
At the October meetings of the various service organizations of Sacred Heart, sign-up sheets will be available to serve as volunteers to help put the baskets together. Or, perhaps you prefer to shop for the groceries and deliver a basket of food for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

At four months in the womb, your baby's heartbeat may now be audible through an instrument called a doppler. Her fingers and toes are well-defined, and eyelids, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails, and hair are formed. She can even suck her thumb, yawn, stretch, and make faces. Her reproductive organs and genitalia are now fully developed. By the end of the fourth month, your baby is about 6 inches long and weighs about 4 ounces. Please continue to pray for your baby and her mother.
