Mother TeresaSeptember 5 is the feast day of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.  FORMED has on its website Mother Teresa, a highly acclaimed film on the life of this saint.  "The movie examines the fundamental moments of Mother Teresa's life from her childhood in Albania in the 1920s to her first calling as a nun, the decision to leave her order and live with the poorest of the poor, the challenges of founding the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity, and her great work of service in Calcutta and the rest of the world."  Another resource is an audio program, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, in which Father Leo Maasburg present "fifty stories about her that most people have never heard - that he was privileged to experience Mother Teresa's side."

St. AugustineAugust 28 is the feast of St. Augustine; it's a good time to recall his spiritual journey and to appreciate the great influence he had on the life of the Church in his own time and down through the ages.  FORMED.org has an audio book, a novel, The Restless Flame, by Louis de Wohl, that deals with the life of St. Augustine both before and after his conversion.  Another source, part of Archbishop Alban Goodier's book, Saints for Sinners, records the lives of St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Margaret of Cortona in a brief presentation on the power of God's love to transform lives

If you have registered as a FORMED user, you can find links to these audios by using the search function on the FORMED homepage.  If you haven't registered yet, just type FORMED.org into your browser, enter the parish's code - CNT7WK - on the homepage, and create a passwod for your continued use of the website.

Bishop Robert BarronFriends,

Please watch and share my video with your family, friends, and pastor.

In light of the recent scandals, I know many people are wondering whether they should remain in the Catholic Church. And I totally get that; the outrage is warranted.

But in this time of crisis, I beg you not to flee, but to fight--not violently, with the weapons of the world, but with the weapons of the Spirit. We need you.

“Like all of you, I was horrified three weeks ago when I learned about ex-Cardinal McCarrick’s misdeeds. I had met him briefly only once and, of course, suspected nothing. I certainly would never have dreamed that it would have been possible that others could have known about his personal history and still allowed him to remain in ministry, much less advance in the hierarchy of the Church.

Bishop Anthony Taylor"Upon learning of his suspension from the exercise of public ministry I issued a statement asking for prayers for his victims and all involved. I also reminded everyone of the importance of the safe environment policies of our diocese and repeated my desire to provide assistance to anyone who has been abused by a priest or any other representative of the Church.

“And now, just when I thought nothing could be worse than a cardinal who actually abused minors himself, we learned this week of the devastating results of the grand jury investigation of abuse by clergy in Pennsylvania — more than 300 cases going back over the span of 70 years.

"While it is true that the overwhelming majority of these were prior to the implementation in 2002 of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the discovery that criminal acts of this magnitude occurred so frequently prior to that, and that these crimes were often concealed by the very bishops who should have been the victims’ most ardent advocates, is unspeakably disheartening. This is as hard for me to accept as it is for many of you.

“People have asked me, ‘How do I explain this to my non-Catholic friends?’ All I can say is that Judas was one of the 12 apostles and there is a bit of Judas in every one of us. We are a Church of sinners and Satan prowls the world seeking the ruin of souls, but more powerful than any evil is the power of the Holy Spirit who continues to guide us in every age. Over the course of the past 2,000 years, the Church has been buffeted by storms and scandals of every sort, but the Lord continues to be in our midst and our faith is in him, not in any single priest, bishop or cardinal.”

Sincerely in Christ,
+Anthony B. Taylor
Bishop of Little Rock
