5 month fetus in wombBaby's progress in the womb at Five Months.

You may begin to feel your baby move, since he or she is developing muscles and exercising them.  This first movement is called quickening.  Hair begins to grow on baby's head, and baby's shoulders, back and temples are covered by a soft fine hair called lanugo.  The hair protects your baby and is usually shed at the end of your baby's first week of life.  Your baby's skin is covered with a whitish coating called vernix caseosa.  This "cheesy" substance is thought to protect baby's skin from the long exposure to the amniotic fluid.

By the end of the fifth month, your baby is about 10 inches long and weighs from one-half to one pound.  Please continue to pray for your baby and her mother.
formed logo semiboldAs we prepare to celebrate All Saints Day, we may wish to learn more about those saints whose lives are perhaps unfamiliar to us but whose faith in action earned their canonization.  On FORMED.org, there is a collection of biographical films about men and women whose depth of faith or extraordinary action helped to spread the gospel of Christ.  Among those included in the collection are St. Joseph of Cupertino, considered a devil by his contemporaries because of the miracles attributed to him, St. Rita of Cascia, whose faith never wavered despite the overwhelming tragedies she endured, and St. John Bosco, who devoted his life to the homeless children of Turin.  Along with these saints are others, for example, St. Joan of Arc, whose lives are more well known.

If you have registered as a FORMED user, you can find links to these programs by using the search function on the FORMED homepage.  If you haven't registered yet, just type FORMED.org into your browser, enter the parish's code - CNT7WK - on the homepage, and create a password for your continued use of the website.

Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following letter Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, updating the people of the Diocese of Little Rock about the ongoing clergy sexual abuse crisis and assistance to victims.

"Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

"Last month I issued a letter to all the people of the Diocese of Little Rock to be transparent about how the sexual abuse crisis in the Church included Arkansas. I released the names of 12 priests with service in Arkansas who, as of Sept. 10, 2018, had been credibly accused of the sexual abuse of minors over the course of the last 70 years.

taylor-bishop-anthony-statement-180x252.jpg"I also announced that Kinsale Management Consulting would undertake a complete, independent review of all relevant files and I indicated that we were prepared to cooperate with the attorney general in any investigation that she might undertake. As we prepare for Kinsale management to begin its work, I would like offer you an interim report regarding what has transpired since the publication of my letter last month.

"The Attorney General’s Office has undertaken an initial review of how we have handled all the allegations we have received since 2002. We continue to cooperate with them and I am confident that they will be satisfied that we are complying with our own policies and procedures as well as with Arkansas law.

"Additional Cases: I had hoped that the release of the names of those priests known to have abused minors might enable any as-yet unknown victims to come forward to share their story and receive help, and this has in fact occurred. Since Sept. 10 we have received 26 additional allegations, most of which were against priests already listed in last month’s letter, and none of which were against priests who are currently in active ministry in Arkansas.

"In addition, all of these new allegations are regarding events that would have occurred before 2002. We have not had the time to investigate these new allegations thoroughly, but we have already offered assistance to those who have contacted us. This information will be provided to Kinsale as they begin their work.

"Kinsale Management Consulting will begin its work on Nov. 9, 2018. Information about this firm led by former FBI official Dr. Kathleen McChesney can be found at www.kinsalemanagementconsulting.com.

"Once again, I ask for your prayers for all the victims of sexual abuse from whatever source, but in particular those who have been abused by a priest, deacon or other representative of the Church. I am inspired by the courage and trust required for these victims to come forward to share their pain and their trauma, and I would like to renew my call for any others who have been abused or know someone who has been abused to come forward because we want to help.

"Please contact the civil authorities first by calling the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline (800-482-5964). And then please call our diocesan contacts: Dc. Matthew Glover, chancellor for canonical affairs (501-664-0340, ext. 361) or Dr. George Simon or Dr. Sherry Simon, victims assistance coordinators (501-664-0340, ext. 425). This reporting information is also on our website and posted at all of our parishes and schools. I am deeply concerned to see to it that we offer whatever assistance we can provide.

"Let us continue to pray for one another during these most trying times in our Church. But let us pray most especially for the victims and their families — they are the ones who are hurting the most.

"Sincerely in Christ,
+Anthony B. Taylor
Bishop of Little Rock"

food basket1In the United States last year, 175 million Americans celebrated Halloween.  The average spending for this holiday was $86.79 per buyer.  This includes decorations, yard art, costumes (adult, children, pets) and candy treats.

This year in Hot Springs Village, let us celebrate this Halloween by putting our "trick or treat" money in the special collection the weekend of October 27/28 to benefit the Food Basket Program here at Sacred Heart.  This once-a-year collection helps provide food baskets for families living in poverty with children.  School guidance counselors at Mountain Pine, Jessieville and Fountain Lake provide the names of families that could use a little help from time-to-time.  Help us to help them by contributing generously with the special envelopes in your packet.
Spaghetti DinnerSt. John's School will host 'Wonders of India' THIS Friday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Please help support St. John's School by attending their different events throughout the day. Electronic GivingIn response to several requests from parishioners, Sacred Heart is now offering Electronic Giving.  This means that you can make your donations on the internet or with your mobile phone, and those donations can be charged to a credit card or directly to your bank account.  Our hope is that the process will make contributing easier.  There is a link to our Giving Page on the Sacred Heart website, and we recommend that you save that Giving Page in your Favorites to make future access easier.  There is an insert in the bulletin this weekend with more information, and there will be flyers on the church bulletin board as well.  If you have any questions please contact Larry Stein at 501-204-9074.
LOSHThe Ladies of the Sacred Heart will meet Monday, October 8, in the Lower Hall after morning Mass.  The featured speaker this month is Bob Woodall who has been coordinating our Blood Drives for several years.  He will help dispel the myths concerning blood donation.  So, please take this opportunity to have your questions answered!  The next Blood Drive for the parish is scheduled for November 13 and will be held at the Village United Methodist Church.

Those attending this meeting are asked to bring "something extra" if possible.  We will be collecting personal hygiene items for local school nurses.  Feel free to donate all those extra shampoos, soaps, bath wash, mouthwash, toothbrushes, etc. that you may have collected during summer travels.
