The Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Memorial Mass and Dinner on Tuesday evening, November 3. The evening will be a celebration of the lives of deceased Brother Knights. Their widows will be our guests. If a widow has not received a letter of invitation, please contact Bob Honzik at 922-2702.Father Bill will celebrate Mass at 5:00 p.m., followed by social time, dinner and a short program in the Lower Hall. The banquet will be prepared and served at the table by Chef Johnna and her staff. The menu includes: Caeser salad with garlic Parmesan croutons, braised beef tips in Pinor Noir sauce with mushrooms and onions, three-cheese mashed potatoes with bacon, baked squash casserole, and two desserts (one will be triple chocolate cake).
Tickets for this event are $18 per person. Knights are encouraged to sponsor one or more widows at $18 each. (Please include their names if they should be seated at your table).
Knights should send checks, payable to the Knights of Columbus, to Bob Honzik, 48 Mesero Way. Knights attire for this function is coat and tie, but with tuxedo recommended for the Fourth Degree Knights.
Daylight Savings Time will end at 2:00 a.m. this Sunday, November 1. Remember to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday evening. Beginning Saturday, November 7, the Saturday Mass will begin at 4:00 p.m. Please make a note of this time change. 
All parishioners are invited to nominate one or more Sacred Heart members for election to the Pastoral Council Commission: Education, Liturgy, Parish Life and Social Justice and Charitable Outreach. The election will take place on the weekend of November 7/8.Each elected parishioner will serve for two years and will be a liaison between his/her Commission and the Pastoral Council. Normally, the Commissions and the Council meet six times each year. Responsibilities of the four Commissions are explained in this week's bulletin insert.

The Knights of Columbus Council 10208 Baby Bottle Campaign that began on October 3 will end on Sunday, November 1, All Saints Day. The goal this year is to assist in purchasing an ultrasound machine for a Pregnancy Resource Center servicing our area. The cost is expected to be $28,000 to $30,000; however, if they are able to raise half, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council will contribute the remaining half.Ultrasound machines are saving the lives of babies every day where they are used. What a great feeling it is when you know that you have helped save a life!
Please plan on returning the Baby Bottles with your generous donation to the baby playpen in the narthex. Please open your heart and generousity to these beautiful unborn children of God. Thank you!
During October, parishioners are encouraged to participate in activities that promote respect for Life, from conception to natural death. The following events are scheduled: (1) Life Chain in Hot Springs from 2-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, (2) Prayer Vigil at the Little Rock abortion clinic on Friday, October 9, from 2-4:00 p.m., (3) Prayer Vigil in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at church on Friday, October 9, from 2-4:00 p.m., (4) Rosary in the public square on Saturday, October 10, 12:00 p.m. in front of the Walmart store, (5) the Knights of Columbus Baby Bottle Campaign, October 4 through November 1. Details about each of these events are on a display table in the narthex. Prayerfully consider what God is calling you to do. 
Wednesday, October 28, at 8:30 a.m., the Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a program honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe. This program honors Our Lady as the Patroness of the Americas, and also reaffirms our dedication to the sanctity of human life. This is known as the Silver Rose Program because a Silver Rose has been cast to represent one of the roses that fell from the cape of the Blessed Mother before Juan Diego, as proof to his bishop that he was seeing visions of the Blessed Mother. This Silver Rose Program starts each year in Canada and is then passed from one Knights of Columbus Council to another until it reaches Mexico on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. All are encouraged to join us October 28. 
The Fiesta Bazaar will be held at St. John's Catholic School Gym on West Grand in Hot Springs from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23. The Bazaar features children's carnival games, inflatables, and a rock climbing wall from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. In addition, there will be a live and silent auction, lunch as donated by Don Juan's Restaurant, a spaghetti dinner as prepared by Hot Springs Knights of Columbus, a bake sale and entertainment for the entire family. 
Mark your calendars for October 17-22 to attend a Eucharistic Mission with Father Lou Guardiola of the Fathers of Mercy. Father Guardiola will celebrate all of the weekend Masses on October 17 and 18, and will give Mission talks Sunday through Thursday at 6:00 p.m.Father Guardiola, of the Fathers of Mercy, was at St. John's Parish for a brief Mission a few years ago and fondly remembers the Hot Springs area. Many of us are familiar with the Fathers of Mercy from EWTN. This Mission will focus on the Eucharist and Adoration. Please join us and bring a friend.

All are invited to attend an inspirational presentation, "Saints of the Blessed Sacrament" by Taffy Council of Benton's Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Sunday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m.Taffy, a retired oncology nurse, is a wife, mother, and grandmother who has spent the last 15 years coordinating Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in Benton. In addition, she has devoted herself to promoting Eucharistic Adoration by opening and renewing chapels throughout Arkansas. She has also served parishes in Texas, Missouri and Louisiana networking with other coordinators throughout the United States.
Cookies and Father Bill's famous ice cream will be served following her presentation. All parishioners are invited. Please sign-up on the sheets in the narthex if you plan to come.

Special thanks, also, to Taffy Council as Coordinator of Our Lady of Fatima's Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. Taffy visited our parish on September 19/20 to encourage parishioners to sign-up for an hour of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. As a result and as of this date, over thirty people have responded both to be regular adorers and substitutes. We feel very blessed that the Holy Spirit has touched the hearts of so many and hope that each of you will continue to consider spending time with Jesus in our Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (PEA) chapel. It's a priviledge and opportunity to grow closer to Christ. (Invitations are always available on our Adoration Table in the narthex). 
Tickets for the Ladies of the Sacred Heart Fashion Show to be held on Monday, October 19 will go on sale at the Ladies of the Sacred Heart general meeting on Monday, September 14. This year's theme is "Denim and Diamonds," and a prize will be awarded to the woman chosen "the Best Dressed in Denim." Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased from your Guild Captains or by calling Bev Kojder at 501-922-6720. Fashions will be presented by Annie's, and lunch will be catered by the Italian House and Grill. The fashion show is open to the public. A silent auction, door prizes, and raffles will also be a part of the event with proceeds going to local charities. 
The Knights of Columbus invite you to the annual Fall Fest celebration on Friday, October 16, in the Lower Hall. This celebration provides a gala opportunity for camaraderie while enjoying a wonderful dinner with fine entertainent. This year we are delighted to feature the musical and vocal presence of Carolyn Bodensteiner. All are welcome. Invite your neighbors and friends for a social reception at 5:00 p.m. and dinner at 5:45 p.m.The menu includes an Octoberfest theme with garden salad, wiener schnitzel, sweet potatoes, red cabbage, popovers, apple strudel, coffee. Other refreshments will be available from our "donations accepted" refreshment center, featuring wines, beers, sodas, mixed beverages, etc.
A silent auction will be held from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m., followed by a short, live auction of a few wonderful items. This portion allows for converting gift certificates into cash through the sale of: oil and lube services, massages, meals at local restaurants, wines, rounds of golf at Diamante, etc. All net proceeds from this dinner and the auction go entirely to charities, such as: Abilities Unlimited, First Step, The Caring Place, Special Olympics, Arc of Arkansas, or the Arkansas Blind Camp.

The baby's oil and sweat glands are functioning. A white filmy layer covers the baby and protects her delicate skin from surrounding amniotic fluid and from scratches as she twists and turns. The waxy substance will be quickly absorbed into her skin soon after she is born. She can now respond to sound. Her lungs are fairly well developed and she would stand a good chance of survival if born at this thime. 
Thanks to each of you, parishioners of Sacred Heart, for the past 17 years of devotion and friendship that you have given to Jan and me. There has not been a time when we have asked anyone to do a ministry that you have not come forward and given all that you have. We are eternally grateful for this. Special thanks to those who were able to attend the pot luck dinner which was held for us. The food was fantastic and the number of people who attended was just amazing.I want everyone to know that I will still be around to help the parish in Adult Education and in ministry to the homebound. I will also be more than willing to help anyone who wants to preplan their funeral readings and music. Give me a call, and we will set a day and time to get together. If you are interested in donating flowers for the altar, please see the white binder titled "Flower Donations" in the narthex on the counter to your right immediately after entering the church. Then sign your name for the weekend preferred, and note if you are requesting flowers for a special occasion. Our sacristan, Carol Cruz, will then take care of ordering and placing your flower arrangement(s) on the altar. If your prefer, you can choose an alternate florist and order the arrangement yourself. Your name should still be listed in the white binder. Each arrangement is $50 to $60, depending on the size preferred. Leave your payment with the Office Staff, and call Carol at 922-1428 with questions.
