OktoberfestThe Knights of Columbus Oktoberfest includes a live performance by the ensemble Voices Rising and recorded German polkas and waltzes as well as 50s, 60s, 70s dance tunes. Roast Pork, Rosemary Red Potatoes, fresh green beans and Apple Strudel dessert will be served. There will be a silent Auction - all benefiting Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.  Join us Saturday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the lower hall of the church. Flu shotOn October 7 and 8, before and after all Masses, the quadravalent flu vaccine will be administered by healthcare professionals.  Please bring photo identification and either a Medicare identification card or Part D insurance identification card.  Call Pharmaist Bill Nosek at 915-9000 with questions.
Seven Secrets of the EucharistBeginning with the week of September 25, there will be a seven-week study focused on the Eucharist. Participants will read and discuss Vinny Flynn's 7 Secrets of the Eucharist, a program designed to deepen our understanding of the importance of the Eucharist in our faith and in the conduct of our lives as disciples of Christ.

Participants can choose to attend weekly hour-long discussion sessions or to follow the program on an independent study basis.  There will be three sessions at Sacred Heart, each with its own facilitator:

Wednesdays at 9:45 a.m. with Tom Canavan
Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. with Dave Johnston
Thursday at 9:45 a.m. with Paula Doyle

In the week of Novmber 5, there will be no meetings of the study groups; instead, participants will be encouraged to attend the parish mission, which will be devoted to the Eucharist.

Sign-up sheets for discussion groups and independent study are in the narthex.  The text and study guide for the program cost $13. Participants will be able to purchase these materials after weekend Masses and to read about and reflect on "Secret 1" before the first group meeting.  Please call Tom Canavan with questions at 204-9546.
animalsIf you have pets, please consider bringing them to Sacred Heart for the annual St. Francis of Assisi Feast day pet blessing on Wednesday, October 4.  We will have two blessings, one blessing at 1:00 p.m. and another blessing at 6:00 p.m.
Life ChainOn Sunday, October 1, we will be participating in a National Life Chain.  This Chain is the largest, peaceful, pro-life, public witness in the world.  More than 1,500 cities across the United States and Canada are expected to join together at the same time.

The Hot Springs Life Chain will be held in downtown Hot Springs in front of the Visitors Center on Central Avenue from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.  This is on the north side of the intersection of Spring and Central.  Signs will be provided and we will stand on the sidewalk holding our signs in silent prayer.  You are, however, welcome to bring a lawn chair if you cannot stand.

Please join us and give witness to the 55 million preborn American citizens who have been the victims of abortion.  There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex.  Please come and pray with us.  It makes a difference.  Invite friends to carpool, and sign-up in the narthex.  Please call Karen at 501-922-4166 with questions.
5 month fetusYou can begin to feel your fifth-month baby move since (s)he is developing muscles and excercising them.  Hair begins to grow on your baby's head, and your baby's sholders, back and temples are covered by a soft fine hair.  This hair protects your baby.  By the end of the fifth month, your baby is about 10 inches long and weighs from one-half to one pound.  Please continue to pray for your baby and her mother.
chicken creamedThe Annual Chicken Bake, as sponsored by the Sacred Heart Men's Club, will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017. Everyone is invited.  There will be two seatings, the early seating at 5:00 p.m. and the late seating at 6:30 p.m.  The doors will open 20 minutes before each seating.  The menu includes Creamed Baked Chicken, baked potato, Green Beans Almandine, salad, roll, butter, coffee.  Additional beverages will be available from the Refreshment Center. Donations are accepted! In addition, Father Bill's famous ice cream will be available for a donation.

Tickets are $12.00 per person in advance, and $13.00 per person at the door, and tables of eight can be reserved. Children under 12 years of age are half the adult price. Children under 6 years of age get a a free meal. Carry-outs are available. walkMark your calendars for Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Balboa Pavilion at 7:30 a.m. for the opening cermonies for the Annual Village Walk for Cancer Research.  There will be food, fun, door prizes and a silent auction. Our delicious bake sale will return.

The cost is $35 for all registrations after September 1, 2017.  You can find registration forms at church in the hallway to the Administration & Education Building and at various locations in the Village, or register online by accessing www.giving.uams.edu/walkforcancerhsv.

Council 10208 of the Knights of Columbus is announcing an exciting NEW way to provide Coats for Kids in our community and enjoy delicious ham products for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.  We have partnered with Honey Baked Hams to initiate a 90-day fundraiser program of selling gift cards that can be redeemed for any Honey Baked Ham product offered in their nationwide stores or redeemed online at their website.  From now through January 1, 2018, anyone can order online through our local Knights of Columbus web address.

Purchase a GIft Card ($10, $25, $50, $100) using the website link listed above, and Council 10208 will received 20% of the value of all gift cards purchased during the 90-day period.  Gift cards can be paid for with your credit card and will be mailed directly to your home.  They can also be given as gifts during the holiday season or redeemed by you from the company website: www.honeybakedhams.com as payment toward any ham and turkey product.  Knights will also have Gift Cards for sale before and after weekend Masses this fall for those without computer access.  We have only 90 days to raise over $2,000 to pay for Coats for Kids.  Call Russ Harrison at 501-276-7837 with questions.
Bowling1Join some fun n' meet some friends!  Sign-up for the Sacred Heart of Jesus Bowling League will begin this weekend in the narthex.  League time: Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. League runs from September 14 until mid-April, at the Fiesta Bowling Center.  Four bowlers make a team; join individually or put together your own team. Cost is $13 per week which includes three games of bowling and prize dollars at the end of the season. Deadline to sign-up is September 11, 2017. The Case for ChristPlease come to Movie Night on Thursday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m. in the Lower Hall of the church.  Enjoy the acclaimed movie, The Case for Christ, starring Mike Vogel, Erika Christensen, Academy Award Winner Faye Dunaway, and Academy Award Nominee Robert Foster.  The movie is based on the true-life story of Lee Strobel, author of the worldwide best-selling book by the same title.  This is a "must see" movie brought to you by the Parish Life Commission and hosted by the Knights of Columbus.
Project RachelDo you feel alone, hurting or unforgiven from a past abortion? The Respect Life Office through Project Rachel, is starting a support group beginning the third week in September. Now You See Me Kathy Sanders On September 20, at 6:30 p.m., Kathy Sanders, Hot Springs Village resident and author of Now You See Me: How I Forgave the Unforgivable, will speak in the Lower Hall.

Mrs. Sanders suffered the death of two grandsons in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City in 1995.  Her presentation will describe her personal journey through grief and despair to a renewal of faith through the forgiveness of those responsible for the tragic loss of life.

Mrs. Sanders has appeared in national media broadcasts and has presented the history of her personal tragedy and her growth in faith through forgiveness throughout the United States.  Come yourself and invite your friends and neighbors to hear her remarkable story.
