Joe Petruk (l) and Steven Gregory congratulation Eugene Widlowski (r) on being selected as State Volunteer of the Month for his work as an AARP program instructor. |
On Thursday, May 10, Eugene Widlowski was conducting an AARP Driver Safety Program at Sacred Heart Church. Gene, an AARP program instructor for more than 15 years, conducts these classes about once each month. A few special guests arrived at this class including Joe Petruk, the state of Arkansas Director of the AARP Driver Safety Program, and Steven Gregory, the local Zone Director. Joe and Steven were not there to attend the class. Rather, they came to present to Gene the State Volunteer of the Month Award for the month of April. This award was in recognition of Gene’s long standing as a volunteer as well as his assistance in other program areas. There are currently 127 instructors in Arkansas for the AARP Driver Safety Program and Gene was very proud to be recognized for his volunteer service. The program is sponsored by AARP to provide drivers with a review of safe driving practices. Those completing the class usually qualify for a discount on their auto insurance premium.
