MASS TIME CHANGE FROM 10:00 TO 10:30 A.M. ON SUNDAYS.

Dear Parishioners,

We can all attest that some changes that come our way can be challenging to understand and accept.  Perhaps such is the case for some, when it comes to the change in the Sunday Mass, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., beginning January 11, 2015, which I announced at all the Masses last weekend.  I believe it is important, for the sake of understanding, that I explain the reasons for the change that were brought up and discussed at the Sacred Heart Parish Council meeting on Friday, December 19, 2014.  At the end of that discussion, there was a motion made and seconded, that this Mass change happen, followed by unanimous consensus that this proposed change should be recommended to me for approval, which I did at that time.  Here are the reasons for changing the Mass time schedule:

1)     Having more time between the two morning Masses, will give us the opportunity to offer some of our adult religious education offerings to those who want to stay after the 8:00 a.m. Mass, or come early for this offering before the 10:30 a.m. Mass begins.

2)     After much consideration, it was decided recently to move our weekly religious education for children to Sunday mornings.  A later start for the second Mass will be helpful for our teachers, parents and students.

3)     The longer period between the two Masses will give some much appreciated breathing space for some of our ligurgical ministers, like our organist and choir director, Lynne Border, as well as our sacristans, deacons, and myself.

4)     Some of our parishioners who strongly prefer a Sunday mass, have a harder time getting going in the morning than others.  The later time will, no doubt, benefit them.

5)     The change will reduce the possibility of congestion in the parking lot of some arriving while others are leaving, especially when the Knights have one of their breakfasts, and on holidays like Christmas and Easter.

I ask that you reflect on these reasons listed and willingly accept this change, which begins on January 11, 2015.

God bless you,
Fr. Bill Elser
