Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish is blessed to have parishioner, Linda Broome, an experienced fitness trainer, in our Lower Hall every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. offering an exercise opportunity especially geared for anyone (parishioner or non-parishioner) who is over the age of 50. The sessions involve stretching to improve flexibility, balance to decrease the chance of falling, light weights to improve strength and muscle tone, and a light cardiovascular component to help lower resting heart rate, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. In addition, Linda has recently included POUND in the workout time. It uses music, stability balls in a basket, lightly weighted drumsticks, and a drumming motion to create an effective and fun way of work out. Everything mentioned above can be done in a seated or standing position, depending on the person's comfort level. Come join this group for good exercise, fun and fellowship (before and after the session)!!
STRETCH AND BALANCE
Linda also offers a stretch and balance session every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Lower Hall to helps seniors who have a limited range of motion due to age or disability to stretch out muscles and strengthen them through a routine that is safe from strain or injury. A chair is used to assist the participant to be safe AND get a helpful workout that helps flexibility and balance. Due to popular demand POUND is also done for part of the hur by those who come. Come stretch your way to better health and balance!!!

We will be blessed to have Bishop Anthony Taylor as the main celebrant of the 10:00 a.m. Mass next Sunday, May 1st as he confers the Sacrament of Confirmation on four of our young people: Michele Benson, Jimena Pineda, Caiden Russell and Aaron Russell as well as two adults: Katie Lindsey and Mary Rankin. A cake, punch and coffee reception will be held for the newly confirmed after that Mass. All parishioners are invited to attend.
AARP has continued the suspension of in person classes for the Driver Safety Program. There is an opportunity to refresh your driving skills and get a certificate for a discount on your auto insurance. Take the online course. If you are interested, call me, Gene Widlowski at 501-922-4145 and I have a 25% promo code to enter. This will lower your cost for the course.
Lent has begun with encouragement to "Fast, Pray and Give Alms." One way to do those very things is to take part in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Easter Food Basket program. While we are preparing our souls for the Triduum, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church is preparing to provide families in need with a joyful Easter meal. To do this, we are asking for volunteers to shop and deliver the food for a meal of celebration at Easter Time. Easter falls on Sunday, April 17. The Food Basket Committee will provide our volunteers with the name and contact information of a family in our service area. The volunteer contacts the family, does the shopping for the food, including fresh meats and vegetables, and delivers the purchases to the family the week before Easter (April 10 through April 16). Receipts for the money spent may be sent to Food Basket Committee and the money will be reimbursed from a parish fund managed by the committee. Parish organizations will be asking for volunteers at their April meetings or interested parties may call Ed Keearns at 501-922-3832.
Our Wednesday Lenten Suppers begin on March 1st. The evening will start with Mass at 5:00 pm followed by a light meal and then we will enjoy a short video from FORMED.org. The first event on March 1st will be hosted by the Sacred Heart Singles. Watch for more details in the bulletin and here on the website.

The Pastoral's Council's next meeting is April 22nd at 9:30 a.m. Since the weekend before the meeting is Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, we will not have representatives in the Narhex before and after Masses that weekend as we usually do. Instead we ask that parishioners email their questions to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and/or drop them by the church office anytime before the April 22nd meeting. In fact, this is always an option for parishioners to ask questions or make suggestions to the Pastoral Council. Thank you.
In private revelation of St. Maria Faustina, Jesus asked that a Feast of the Divine Mercy be celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter. He told her: "On that day, all the divine flood gates through which graces flow are opened. The soul who will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment." The nine day Divine Mercy Novena culminates with Divine Mercy Sunday, this Sunday, April 24th with our special Holy Hour from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Fr. Bill will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Divine Mercy Sunday from 2:00 to 2:55 p.m. before our Divine Mercy Holy Hour. If you went to Reconciliation at our Communal Reconciliation Service (April 5th), or, received it in the week or so before, or, receive it after Divine Mercy, you will receive the Divine Mercy indulgence.

In the interest of accommodating more people who may want to participate in the Raffle Only, we will now be selling tickets to those who cannot attend the Wine & Cheese Event by using the "BUDDY" system. If you have a friend that is attending the WIne & Cheese Event you can give your raffle stub to that person to collect your prize if you win. If you do not have someone to be your "Buddy," so to speak, we will assign a person to be in charge of your stubs and collect your prize or you. Hopefully those of you who have felt left out of the Raffle because you are not available to attend this Event will now feel included and purchase your Raffle tickets. If you have any questions contact Barbara Sweeney at 501-226-5028. Remember this is about the many charities that LOSH benefits. This should fit right in with the Lenten Season and the gift of giving as set forth in Father's Column when he referred to the traditional practices of 'Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.' Wine & Cheese and Raffle Tickets will be available before and after all of the Masses on the weekends of March 5/6 and March 12/13, and for LOSH members at the meeting on March 14. All checks should be made payable to "Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church."

When one hears the word EXERCISE, normally the word CHAIR is not used except in reference to what someone looks forward to using after exercise is done. Surprisingly, those two words are not mutually exclusive as many benefits await those who exercise in a chair or with a chair to hold onto while exercising. A seated chair exercise routine is a great way to get the benefit of muscle strength training (which people of all ages need) without risk of falling or losing one's balance.
Linda Broome, our very experienced and pleasant exercise leader, coach and fellow parishioner is ready to help you in a group setting ( in our "no judgement" lower hall zone) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 am or 11:30am-12:30 pm. At those times exercises can be done sitting and/or standing. Stretch and balance sessions in or using a chair are held on those same days from 1:00-2:00 pm. Most of those who have come to the afternoon chair sessions (who range in age from 65-94 years old) will testify to great improvement in their strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and stamina (and no doubt a more hopefilled disposition about their overall health and well being). Please give it a try!! Your chair is waiting for you!!
