Yoga stretchSacred Heart of Jesus offers Balance classes in addition to strength training and light to moderate aerobic activity classes.  Having good balance is an important way to prevent falls, but there are many benefits to regular exercise, especially as we age.  Physical activity along with a healthy diet are two of the most important lifestyle factors that determine whether or not we age gracefully.  Finding an exercise program that is fun and engaging is essential if we want to create a lasting habit, but there are lots of different types of exercise to choose from.  Senior citizens should choose an exercise program that they can continue to do over the course of time as their bodies change.

Exercise is not just a way to get into shape or to prevent injurious falls.  It can also be a reason to go outside and get fresh air.  It can be a reason to socialize and mix with other like-minded individuals of all ages.  Through exercise, people tune into their physical bodies and notice what is going right and what is going wrong.  Exercise classes are in the Lower Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. and last one hour.
Yoga ChairIf you have shied away from yoga because you feel intiminated by the postures you see on the cover of magazines, you might be surprised to learn that most if not all poses can be performed in a chair.  Chair Yoga has been shown to improve overall health.  The mosts common feedback that I have received from students is that they sleep better, drive better...and that they feel they are doing something really good for themselves.  They just feel healthier, which attributes to the increase in circulation and stimulation of the lymphatic system.  And they find they can relax more than they ever knew possible.  With this in mind, it's no surprise that it can therefore lend its benefits to everyone - especially those with mobility issues.  I encourage each and everyone of you to come to one of the classes Sacred Heart of Jesus has to offer and try it out for yourselves.  I have a chair ready for you.  If you need more information, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. pull tabThank you for donating "pull tabs."  Collecting pull tabs is a great way to help children and their families at Ronald McDonald House across the country.  They are able to raise thousands of dollars each year through these simple donations.  We continue to collect them for this charity and we take them directly to the Ronald McDonald house location in Little Rock for their fundraising efforts.  Any soda or beer cans, pet food cans, vegetable, fruit and soup cans all may have the "pull tabs."  There is a box on the cabinets of the A&E Hallway for you to place your tabs anytime.  This effort is sponsored by LOSH and we appreciate your support.
formed logo semiboldThe COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on many people's lives.  The damage has not only been to our bodies but has also been to our mental state.  Mental health problems, however, are not limited to our present crisis.  One in four people will be affected by a mental health problem at some point in their lives, yet the stigma surrounding mental illness silences many and prevents faith communities from responding compassionately and effectively.  "The Sanctuary Course for Catholics" which can be found on Formed addresses this problem by exploring the intersection of Faith and mental health.  It is available as a coursebook or audio book.  This course for adults has eight sessions and is accompanied by eight films.  It is designed for use in small groups and includes interactive discussion questions and group exercises.  Families, church groups or individuals can use the search function on formed to locate this course.  (click on the three parallel lines in upper left corner of Formed site)  You can learn more about this course and Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries at www.sanctuarymentalhealth.org/catholics.
ark comm found logoIn 2015, eleven parishioners decided to create an endowment through the Arkansas Community Foundation that would provide our church with an annual income, in perpetuity, to be used strictly for local charitable outreach use.  The Finance Council has decided that we would not withdraw any funds from the endowment until in reaches $100,000.  At that time the Church should receive about $2,500 every year, in perpetuity, for charitable uses.  Many have donated to the endowment by making memorial contributions for deceased church members.  Today our endowment has grown to $53,000.  Please consider our endowment for memorial or recognition gifts and remember it when making your will or trust arrangements.  Envelopes are available in the Narthex for your convenience.  If you have any questions, please contact Carolyn Bowers (915-8022, This email address is being protected from spambots.
