They say, "it takes a village," but in this case, it took our Parish! Many thanks to those who helped in the Christmas effort made by the Food Basket Committee. Special thanks to Susan Harrell and Sharon Osterhout for their tireless efforst, Rick Darnell for his computer skills, Russ Harrison and the Men's Club for their efforts with non-perishable food and loading cars with food & gifts, LOSH members for coordinating the Angel Tree from beginning to end (including Patty Doublin's last minute shopping), Ed and Claudia Keearns shoe certificates and finally ALL of our volunteers who delivered the food and presents to 52 area families. Also, I didn't forget those who gave generous donations so that these less fortunate families received help. This was truly and entire parish effort and I am certain there are 120 happy children!!
For Income Tax purposes, your donations MUST be received by December 31 for them to be included in the Year End Contribution Statement.  If you make donations from your IRA, it is best to make the check payable to Sacred Heart Church but mailed to your home.  You can then explain how you would like the money distributed and mail to the church. Your generosity is appreciated!
The 2024 church calendars are available to parishioners this weekend in the Narthex after all Masses. Please take one per family. Cedarvale Funeral Home has once again generously donated our calendars.
Do you enjoy viewing and discussing art? If so, don't miss the series of video episodes on FORMED that discuss Sacred Art. The format is that Dr Ben Akers and Taylor Kemp sit down with different peices of Sacred Art and discuss a different piece each episode.  You will learn the theological meaning of how Art can speak to us today.  Look for two painting in the series that are perfect to view for the Christmas season: "Adoration of the Sheperds" and "Our Lady of Guadalupe."  Register for a free subscription by going to www.FORMED.org and signing up as a Sacred Heart parishioner.
The tradition of a Holy Hour goes back to 1674 when Jesus appeared to St Margaret Mary Alacoque and instructed her to spend an hour weekly meditating on his sufferings in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The normal Sunday Eucharistic Holy Hour will not take place on December 31 3:00 p.m.  Holy Hour resumes January 7.  Begin the New Year with weekly prayer with others in silence before the Blessed Sacrament.

Sign ups will take place on the second & third weekends in January for the small group study Jesus and the Eucharist to be held February 7-March 25. The study will be offered Mondays 1-3 p.m., Wednesdays 1:30-3:30 (followed by 4:00 p.m. Mass) and Wednesday 6:30-8:30 P.M.  A Lenten meal will be served between Wednesday Mass and the group session.

This year the church strongly encourages, but does not oblige, all Catholics to participate in a Mass to celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God on January 1. We will offer one Mass at 10:00 a.m. this Monday. Please come to this Mass for the Solemnity as well as to begin the new calendar year with the blessings of God through this Eucharistic celebration.
