 EDUCATION AND FORMATION COMMISSION
Adult Continuing Education
Provides continuing education in the Catholic faith for parishioners and other interested parties. Program will be presented as material becomes available. Look for related information in the weekly bulletin.

Adult Scripture Study
Presents the study of scriptures through the nationally-acclaimed Little Rock Scripture Study and/or other available studies for parishioners and other interested parties. Series runs twice yearly, spring and fall. Look for related information in the weekly bulletin.

Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD)
Available to children and adolescents in the Catholic faith who do not attend Catholic schools. Religious education classes are held for students, first grade through twelfth grade, at the church on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., September through May of each year.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Designed for those interested in the possibility of full communion with the Church. A series of instructions about the Catholic Church and its teachings are presented. This program is also helpful for both baptized and unbaptized Christians, and members of the parish who wish to refresh their faith. Attendees meet on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. beginning in October and concluding with the Sacrament of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Library
Provides Christian books and tapes for both adult and child education and enjoyment, and is located in the Conference Room to the side of the Chapel. The library is open weekdays after the 9:00 a.m. Mass until noon.

FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMISSION
Collection Counters
Count monies received from the weekend Mass collection. Each team of five to seven parishioners, counts once per week, for about two hours, for a month. Previous experience is not necessary.

Grounds & Exterior Coordinator
Assists the Finance & Administration Council by focusing on the appearance of the exterior church structure and grounds, making recommendations for improvements.

LITURGY COMMISSION
Cantors
Scheduled to bring the song of the assembled community to life. Cantors serve at all weekend and Holy Day Masses, and serve as song leaders at the 9:00 a.m. weekday Masses. Twelve people are enrolled in this ministry.

Extraordinary Ministers
Assist the celebrant of the Mass with distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ. Ministers are scheduled for weekend and Holy Day Masses. There are 80 ministers.

Extraordinary Ministers for the Homebound
Deliver the Blessed Sacrament to those who are unable to attend Mass at church. Approximately 25 people serve the homebound.

Gift Bearers
Encourages parishioners to participate in Mass by bringing the water and wine to the altar prior to the Consecration. Gift Bearers sign-up in the narthex two months prior to the date of scheduled Mass.

Lectors
Scheduled for the purpose of reading the Word of God clearly to the parish community. Lectors are scheduled to read at all Masses. There are approximately 30 people currently serving as lectors.

Rosary Makers
Five to ten members meet weekly to make rosaries for the military and missions throughout the world.

Sacred Heart Mixed Choir
Formed as a liturgical choir that sings primarily at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass from September through May. Choir members sing in support of the Liturgy of the Word and the Eucharist. The Mixed Choir normally practices in the Church from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays from mid-August through May. There are approximately 24 people involved.

Saturday Night Choir
Provides support for congregational singing of more contemporary liturgical music, led by guitar, with two to four-part harmony. Practice takes place at the home of Diane Patterson from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings, September through May. Eight people are involved in this musical ministry.

Sacristans
Prepare the church and altars for Mass, along with decorating the church seasonally. These volunteers also assist at funeral and other special occasion. There are 30 women who serve as sacristans.

Servers
Assist the celebrant and deacons with the celebration of the Mass. This ministry is open to men, woman and children. There are 30 people involved with this ministry.

Ushers
Help manage the flow of parishioners at Mass and with collections. Assist at funeral and other special occasions. Thirty people are involved in this ministry.

PARISH LIFE COMMISSION
Bridge Marathon
Meets once monthly at parishioner homes to play Bridge and socialize. Each couple (or single) hosts the get-together twice each year. Snacks (only) are provided by the host(s). In May of each year a potluck dinner is held in the Lower Hall of the church. Dues are $5.00 per person, annually, and are collected to purchase prizes for the annual potluck.

Greeters
Welcomes fellow parishioners with enthusiasm and friendliness at each weekend Mass. There are about 80 people involved with this ministry. Greeters have information about becoming a member of the parish and other important facts.

Hand and Foot Card Club
Meet at members homes monthly to play the Hand and Foot card game. Each group normally has 6 people. Once annually, all members meet at the church hall for a potluck dinner and Hand and Foot cards. There are currently 115 members, and dues are $3.00 per person, each year; $2.00 per person for substitute players.

Knights of Columbus Third Degree, Council 10208
Dedicated to support the Church and community along fraternal and charitable avenues. Meetings held the first Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Lower Hall of the Church. Annual events include the “Persons with Disability” Tootsie Roll Drive in October, Memorial Dinner in November, New Year’s Eve Party, annual picnic in May, and quarterly French Toast Breakfast after Sunday Masses. Membership is 220 Catholic men. Dues are $25 each year.

Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, Assembly 2316
Dedicated to patriotism of our country as a fraternal organization. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Lower Church Hall. The Honor Guard, the visible members of the Knights that march at many parades and other festivities, are members of the Fourth Degree. Annual events include the Flag Day Program. The Honor Guard usually marches in the Hot Springs Christmas Parade and the Walk for Life in Little Rock. Members also erect American flags around the church on patriotic holidays. Currently there are over 100 Catholic men who are members. Dues are $10 each year.

Ladies of the Sacred Heart
Membership is open to all women of the parish and others in the community who want to participate. The group unites women in religious and social activities helpful to the parish. Annual events include Christmas Brunch, card party, fashion show and ladies golf outing. There are 200 to 300 members; annual dues are $4.00. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month, excluding summer, after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. In addition to this umbrella organization, there are 12 guilds that meet separately with their own charities to support.

Newcomers Welcoming Committee
Welcomes new parishioners by visiting them at home and supplying them with information about Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. Questions are answered about activities and ministries within the parish. There are 24 people involved with this committee.

Polish Heritage Club
Comprised of members with Polish (or Slavic) heritage. Members meet monthly at various times. Annual events include Paczki Day, Easter (Swienconka) Dinner at Church, blessing of Easter baskets on Holy Saturday at church, the September picnic, and the St. Nicholas Dinner at the church. There are nearly 80 members, and annual dues are $6 per person.

Sacred Heart Men’s Club
Promotes our Catholic faith, fellowship and sociability in th parish. Members participate in Village community affairs and give support to charitable groups in the area. Meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month, September through May, starting at 5:00 p.m. Annual events include the Community Fish Bake, Steak Fry for members and spouses, Community Chicken Dinner, Potluck dinner, and a Christmas dinner for families. Annual dues are $10.

Sacred Heart Singles Club
Provides all single adults in the parish an opportunity to meet others in like circumstances to form friendships that reach beyond the group setting. Members meet monthly at different locations depending on the scheduled activities. Twice a year members meet for a potluck dinner to plan continuing events. Membership is particularly beneficial to the recently widowed and older members of the parish who have lost many friendships to death or relocation. There are 200 members; there are no membership dues.

Shawl Ministry
Provides the infirmed, those hospitalized, and residents of nursing homes with handknit/ crocheted shawls. Members meet monthly.

Sociable Six
Presents an opportunity for new and experienced parishioners to meet others socially on a personal level. Six members meet once a month, for three months, in members’ homes, rotating monthly, for dinner and socialization. The entire group meets in the spring and fall.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND CHARITABLE OUTREACH
Bereavement Support Team
Provides bereavement support to those parishioners who have suffered a loss of a spouse, relative or friend. Facilitators coordinate Grief Recovery Groups every 18 to 24 months. Those involved make calls, send letters and visit parishioners-in-need. There are seven people involved with this ministry.

Helping Hands
Continues as a ministry for people willing to aid fellow parishioners in emergency situations. Some services provided include: sitting with a patient so a care giver can get away, shopping for the homebound, visiting the homebound, preparing meals, transportation to Mass or medical appointments. Eighty people are currently involved with assisting parishioners. Semi-annual meetings are held in September and March at the church.

Right-to-Life
Disseminates Pro-Life information to parishioners. Annual, promoted events include the Right-to-Life March and Hold-the-Hands events, both in Little Rock. The ministry also encourages participating in the Right-to-Life booths at both the state and county fairs.

Habitat for Humanity - Garland County
Offers affordable housing to low-income families.
Parishioners donate usable items to The Habitat Restore located on Central Avenue in Hot Springs. Telephone is 501-321-4241.
No experience is required to volunteer to help build homes. Volunteers gather Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
